What are serious games?


A serious game is a game that is used to teach problem solving skills and is based on real world problems or events. Some examples of serious games are Farm Simulator and Close Combat: Modern Tactics. Some problems that serious games simulate are the Arab-Israeli Conflict or World Hunger. There are different kinds of serious games. There are simulators, like Microsoft Flight, Frog Dissection, or Farming Simulator, that teach you skills you can use in life. Other serious games, like PositScience and Lumosity, are games to help build up your mind and increase cognitive function. Our Team's Quest is to know the meaning and examples of a serious game, evaluate the serious games discovered, and to prepare a presentation to share our findings. We that serious games are useful because they give students a deeper understanding of issues and teach students valuable skills for the real world.
